Jonas Höschl
Men in Shades
14.11. – 19.12.26
Opening: 13.11. 6–9 p.m.

On Men in Shades
In Men in Shades, Jonas Höschl traces he changing meaning of a pair of sunglasses, from the courtroom of the Nuremberg Trials to he worlds of photograpy, pop culture, fashion, and collection. Through historical photographhs, archival material, and contemporary works, the exhibition explores how images shape our understanding of the past. At its centre is the paradox of an object that once protected its wearers from the very light that made them visible to the camera. Eighty years laterm Höschl asks how objects, images, and memories continue to change as they move through different historical and cultural contexts.

Jonas Höschl (b. 1995 in Regensburg) is a conceptual artist and photographer. In his artistic practice, he works with printmaking, sound, video, and installation, examining the identity-forming potential of political systems as well as the impact and circulation of historical images. His work has received, among others, the Paula Modersohn-Becker Art Prize, the Bavarian Art Promotion Award for Fine Arts, and the German Photo Book Award. His work has been presented at venues and festivals including Krakow Photomonth, the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna, FOTO WIEN Festival, and Kunstverein Hannover. His publications include Fade Away Medley (Das Wetter), Politik von Medienbildern (Hatje Cantz), and 80 Portraits: 73 Männer, 7 Frauen (Verlag für moderne Kunst).
